Are your stones diamonds?
No they are not diamonds. Neither is Moissanite neither is white sapphire and neither are the many other diamond "simulants" on the market. However, we believe you will not find a better alternative anywhere. We have many satisfied customers from all around the world who agree that our level of quality is the ultimate alternative to diamond both to the eye and to the pocket. Besides, many jewellers have agreed that to the naked eye our stones are very difficult to distinguish from natural diamonds.

Standard CZ vs. CARAT* Diamond Simulants?

We agree that many diamond simulants on the market are of very poor quality mainly do to the following inferior production techniques:

1. Poor selection of rough, meaning that low grade raw material is used in a non sterile environment. This results in poor clarity rough crystals that result in low color grades and poor clarity stones. Our rough is produced in an ultra clean environment using ultra refined raw materials.

2. Inferior cutting techniques yielding less than perfect stone proportions. This produces a stone that does not refract and reflect light in an ideal way. We cut by hand taking 20 times longer than standard machine cut stones and we have our stones cut virtually the same way as traditional diamond cutting methods.

3. Incomplete polishing of facets. This creates the milky or cloudy effect that you see in many inferior CZ stones. We polish each stone by hand not forgetting the crown and pavilion facets that are notoriously left unpolished leaving a less than perfect stone.

Moissanite vs CARAT* Diamond Simulants?

The Color Problem
One important thing to note when comparing Moissanite with our stones is that Moissanite is in fact a faintly green stone which can be seen in natural daylight conditions. Typically when compared on the white diamond GIA color scale Moissanite comes in at a respectable I,J,K grade where CARAT* Diamond Simulants rate a much higher D,E grade (top of the scale).

The Clarity Problem
Moissanite can also appear blurry when examined closely. This is due to the crystal structure altering the velocity of light wavelengths unevenly within the stone causing the internal facets to look burred. CARAT* Diamond Simulants are more accurate from an optical point of view with ultra clean facet lines when looking from the top of the stone.

Natural Diamond vs CARAT* Diamond Simulants?

While nothing sparkles quite like natural diamond we believe you will not find a better alternative on the market. With very similar optical characteristics to diamond, many Jewelers have agreed they have difficulty telling our stones from naturals. Additionally given our commitment to value for money and quality of workmanship, we believe CARAT* workmanship is second to none.

What is 18K, 14K, 9K, 750Au, 585Au, 375Au gold?

These terms are expressions that indicate the total amount of gold used in the item. The "K" stands for Karat and is the older imperial way of measuring gold content. There can be a maximum 24 Karat for 100% gold content therefore 18 Karat means 75% gold content etc.

The newer metric system measures the gold in parts of 1000 and is accompanied by the Periodic Table abbreviation for the element of Gold "Au". Therefore 1000Au means 100% gold and 750Au means 75% gold.

Metric Imperial
1000Au 24K
750Au 18K
585Au 14K
375Au 9K

Because 24K or 1000Au gold is too soft to be considered for jewellery, especially for daily wear, and to avoid possible loss of stones, all items at CARAT* are made in 9K (375Au) gold.
